The Sims 4 Diversifies With Skin And Hair Updates

Skin tones will be the focus of the year’s remaining patches

Maxis has announced that The Sims 4 will be focusing on updates to improve more accurate representation when creating Sim characters. This has come after numerous community complaints that The Sims 4 lacked authentic racial inclusion, along with bugs that only affected characters with darker skin tones. Starting in October, the skin shaders will be improved to remove artifacting and ashy textures that can appear on darker skin. This will initially only work on mid to high spec machines using the “Uncompressed Sim Textures” option. The November patch will make this feature more stable, allowing consoles and lower end machines to make use of it as well.

The developers will also focus on even more diverse options by December. This includes new hair styles and makeup to create Sims with even more customization. There will also be swatches and sliders included for all of these features, allowing easier modification to lightening, darkening, and making personalized unique styles.
