Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

When I first heard about The Force Unleashed I was more than excited. In fact I just knew that it was going to be a day one purchase for me. Yet as time went on and more and more footage was shown I began to grow afraid for the games future. And as the demo finally came I was more than disappointed. But even still I was very much excited about the game and decided to rent it seeing as the lack of multiplayer would have seen me playing the game for a few days and leaving it on a shelf to collect dust for months to come.
When you first start up the game your treated to the signature Star Wars opening. Scrolling text and all. The first level has you playing as Darth Vader himself as you completely destroy everything that stands in your path, all of which feels quite rewarding. But it's not till you gain control of the apprentice that things really take off. The controls for the most part feel good and the gameplay could probably keep you going throughout the entire game. But will get to that later.
Story is what you come for in The Force Unleashed and it delivers. Every cutscene feels like a movie. But more so than that it feels like a Star Wars movie. Without spoiling anything the story is great and does quite a good job of setting up the last three movies.
But lets cut to the important parts. While the gameplay is pretty good it just doesn't feel right. I could go on and on about the targeting system but you've probably already heard. It's not good. In fact it adds to the frustration of the entire game. Some parts of the game you'll find yourself flying through the game while other parts you'll find yourself ready to chuck your controller straight out of the window. The mediocre force controls add to it all.
However with it's bugs I still found myself enjoying the game. In fact I LOVED the entire experience. And if it wasn't for the fact that there is absolutely no replay value I would have bought it. So take this all as you will but The Force Unleashed is a game that you don't want to miss out on. Don't buy it unless you simply have to have it. But make sure that you do, at the very least, rent it.
