A working PC alpha build of the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine has been leaked online following the massive Ransomware Attack against Insomniac Games.

Insomniac Games really can't catch a break. The developer, acclaimed for titles such as Marvel's Spider-man and Ratchet and Clank, was the recent victim of a massive cyber-attack which, sadly, resulted in a huge amount of company data being leaked online. If that wasn't bad enough, one of the games that was a part of the massive leak was Marvel's Wolverine, which has been leaked online in a playable state.

2023 has undoubtedly had several cyberattacks; this week, Insomniac is the latest victim. Most of what was leaked online seems to be heavily focused on the aforementioned Marvel's Wolverine title, which was first announced alongside Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in the fall of 2021. While Spider-Man 2 was released this year without a hitch, Wolverine was still understandably a ways off, but it would appear that a playable alpha build has been leaked online. As of writing, the developer has yet to make any official statement on the cyber-attack, and fans have been advised to be cautious due to potential spoilers for the game.

The circulation of the alpha build was first reported by GamesRadar. From what was seen, the build is an incredibly early build of the game's PC version and contains many placeholders for the levels. This build was obviously meant to be a testing ground where the developer would refine the game's various gameplay mechanics, as well as certain story components. However, it should be noted that despite being a PC build of the game, the developer has no intention of porting it to PC because, much like Marvel's Spider-Man, the game was announced as a PS5 exclusive.

As mentioned earlier, the cyberattack affects the game industry, and many other video game developers have rightfully criticized the attack. Remedy Entertainment, the developers behind Alan Wake 2, have called the attack "disgraceful and shameful" and have also shown sympathy towards Insomniac's staff. Remedy wasn't the only studio to show their support. Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann and even the director for God of War, Cory Balrog, supported the developer through this difficult time.

This must not be easy for Insomniac, as it appears more and more details about Marvel's Wolverine keep leaking online, from alpha footage to cast and major plot points. The leaking of the alpha build is just another gut punch to the developer, who has been praised for their narrative and character writing. As mentioned earlier, players have been advised to steer clear of all spoilers for the upcoming title out of respect for the studio and all that have worked on the game.
