Name: Spiderman: Shattered Dimension

Activision

Genre: Adventure/Role Play

Platform : PC

Hi guys, this is monkey again. I wanted to write after finishing the whole game but later on decided that, I should write now. Well I am talking about the new release of Spiderman series. “Spiderman: Shattered Dimension”.

I was never a big fan of Superhero type adventure games. But when I found out about the new Spiderman release, I was confused that whether I should try it or not! But I took a risk and  I must say that it is a strong candidate in my list.

The best part of this game is that you will never get bored of it playing. Because sometimes you are playing in present and the very next moment you are in 2099(!) and suddenly you are back in those black & white days. The game play, characterizations, moves, enemies everything will change according to the timing. Now this is something I really enjoyed.

So let’s have a look in some other points.

Appearance: A dynamic game menu!

Well many publishers are trying this nowadays and Dog days 2, Dirt 2 are some good examples of it. So no wonder Spiderman is not out of it as well.  In Spiderman, now you will experience a totally new dynamic game menu which is pretty much alive and colorful as well. The menu responses according to the mission you are playing. The menu options are simple and helpful.

You will see diffrerent menu apperance according to the mission you select

Game play: A mixed bag!

Spiderman has lots of move options if you can control him! Yes, sometimes it’s really confusing  when you are surrounded by enemies, you just press the left mouse button and step ahead. The combos are pretty good. You can even hit when you are in air. There is also a “SLOW MO” mode available which will give you an advantage over your quick enemies.

Amazing Spiderman Mode

While playing in past you mostly have to work in stealth mode which is quite thrilling. On the other hand in present or in future you are in full action constantly.

You can upgrade your character and unlock combos and different powers by collecting Spider emblems. You can unlock and use “new Spider Suits” as well and amazingly the spider suits available are really cool.

One more thing, the game has a “Close Combat Mode”. Sometimes you will get to real close to your enemies and the combat mode is face 2 face here.  You have to be real quick and timing of hitting is a big deal here. Because if you miss a chance then one good hit from your enemy is enough to kill you.

Spiderman in Noir mode

The game follows one story line with different chapters. But the good thing is in each chapter you have to face and combat with a new opponent as your enemy. This feature of this game actually raised the excitement bar to a new level. When you are finishing one level, it is basically a complete new start for another level with different enemies and combats. So you never get bored.

Graphics: Vivid and bright!

The graphics quality quite good I should say. You have good number of options like bloom, Shadow, depth of the detail to make the most out of the game. The graphic response really supports the game storyline and the environment. Like when you are playing in past (Noir) then it will be much darker and dramatic  environment; on the other hand in 2099 it is much brighter and lots of colors will be flashing in front your eyes.

Spiderman in Future

In game cut scenes and general cut scenes are pretty well placed and enjoyable. Character reflexes and expressions are really good. In close combat mode the facial reflex and expressions are very much realistic.

"If you have a LED monitor you should see the color depth of this game real good and if you want to enjoy the full amount of graphics in HD resolution like 1920*1080 then I recommend you to use at least 4GB system RAM with GTS 250 or better Graphics Card. Well I did so!"

Control: Traditional with one exception!

The control of this is more like other adventure releases. Mostly you fight with the mouse and apply combos with keyboard. The EXCEPTION is - In close combat mode you will have to use key board only and both hands to make the right move.

The overall control is flexible with no complications in character movement. Spiderman crawling  was really good and realistic to see.

Only problem I faced is when I had move by throwing wave from one building to another. This one seems little bit confusing to me. Because I couldn’t figure out the proper timing of it.

Overall and End: I am not a good finisher!

Well I am not so good @ ending. So I want to left it for you guys. Just feel it up with your opinion.

But still I can say that, the "Spiderman: Shattered Dimension" is a good release by Activision. The characterizations of Spiderman is really good and each level will give you a new and unique experience of solid gaming. So why waiting?? Try it!

Alright guys! this is monkey and I am going back to the jungle again. Have fun you all.

Rating: 7.5/10

*All the screenshots added in this review are from my PC. I have played 5/6 levels of the game so far. And the review is based on that.

I like the sound of that close combat mode. The graphics looks shiny. No wonder Activision(Beenox) is involved in making it. What about the overall characterization? Voice and expressions? These details are becoming a big part of every game these days.

    Nice review overall.

  • @RON: the voice of Spiderman was done by Neil Patrick. The guy from "How I met your mother". So the Audio was not much deep like in some other releases of recent times we have seen.

But I think it is ok, because Spiderman never had a strong voice like Logan or Batman!

  • It looks good. I'm not a big fan of spider-man but for the sake of a good super hero game I might give it a try. Thanks for the review mate :)

    Are you playing it @Amaya?

    Posted Dec 08, 2010

  • @Sleven: Take a risk & play it. It's good.

    Posted Dec 08, 2010

  • But your rating wasn't very convincing. I usually skip games that has below 8 rating. Unless it's over hyped.

    Posted Dec 08, 2010

  • @Sleven: Rating usually varies. For me 7.5 is good because i will give Xmen-wolverine 4.5/10 and MOH maximum 5.5/10 and More than 8 like 8.5 or 9.0, 10 these are for Modern Warefare-2. Hope u got my point.

    Posted Dec 09, 2010

  • @monkeyfeed : You gave Wolverine a 4.5

    Posted Dec 09, 2010

  • @Sleven : Yes. I liked the game when I started it but later on missions got pretty repetitive.

    Posted Dec 09, 2010

  • In a sense I actually liked the vivid color idea of the game. pretty welcome change for a game like spiderman. and the noir mode is pretty interesting. nice review btw!!

  • Not yet Slevi. I will when I have time.

The review speaks highly about the game. I'm happy to read. Spider-man game should always be awesome

    Posted Dec 10, 2010

  • @Amaya : I am sure u wud love it.

    Posted Dec 10, 2010
  • It's a Spider-man game. Of course I'll love it :D
    Posted Dec 11, 2010

  • I'm more of a fan of the classic super-hero ~movies~, but I think they have done a decent job with the Spidey and Hulk games as well. The slo-mo feature is an excellent touch, methinx.
