A dream or a reality?

Greetings once again,
I was thinking these last days, and over the past years already, about creating a perfect virtual-world game. I have started playing eRepublik, a massively multiple player online, social networking and strategy web browser game, who invited these thoughts into my mind again. The game developers of eRepublik say that this is just the beginning, and that the game will be developed over time, with the help of the users themself - a very good idea indeed. However, I doubt they will go into making a real virtual world game, where you could actually live, as you live in the real life. Imagine - working, eating, socializing - basically everything you can do in real life. Just think of how much work that would take? How much effort to put something like that together.
The first major factor would be time - You cannot possibly be playing the game all day long, if you actually live your own life, too. They'd have to go into making the game time zone wise. To explain, you could only play, interact with people that are in the same time zone as you are. This is the only way you could go to job and interect with various people there. Of course, you wouldn't work for more than the same percentage of the day, as in real life, only that a day in the virtual world would have to be a few hours only. This is probably the major concerne here, how to make the world actually run, where you'd have to eat in order to survive, work in order to buy food.
Basically, I can stop here. I don't think it is possible to make something like that a reality, but I am sure that the future will bring us something similar, for sure. In any way, I fully support the idea of a virtual world, after all, many people aren't able to pursue their dreams. A virtual world could change that. I'd really like to hear your opinions on this one.
