For the first time since 1996, Red Earth, one of the 10 games in Capcom's forthcoming Fighting Collection, will be available on consoles. Red Earth's Quest Mode, a single-player RPG-like game, featured a fantasy world and a colorful cast of characters.

Red Earth was initially intended to be a fighting game since this genre was becoming more popular then. However, Capcom's Red Earth producer, Takashi Sado, felt that the level of fighting game players had risen to the point that more casual players couldn't keep up with the more elite players. To overcome this talent difference, his team questioned whether they might change genre criteria, equipment, or other aspects.

Additionally, Red Earth was the first game to use Capcom's CPS-3 arcade system board, which was cutting-edge then. The Street Fighter III series was also developed on CPS-3 before it was retired as Capcom's last proprietary system board due to the popularity of the new hardware. A belt from Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and Alex's outfit in Street Fighter V pay homage to Leo the Lion King, but this is the first time Red Earth has been released outside of arcades.

After each boss is defeated, players gain experience points that can be used to strengthen their attack or defense or to unlock new moves altogether. During combat, bosses will drop food that players can use to refuel. Despite its widespread use in Japan, the iconic fighting game has never been made available to the general public until today, thanks to Capcom Fighting Collection. Quite the contrary, Red Earth was chosen as the first game to be included in the collection.

Apart from Red Earth, there are ten titles in the Capcom Fighting Collection, including all five installments of the Darkstalkers series, including Red Earth and Cyberbots, Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix, Hyper Street Fighter II, and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. The collection will be available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on June 24th.
