The best games of the month
by Grayshadow on Jul 31, 2018
July is almost over and August will begin this week. Throughout the month we had a lot of strong releases but some stood out over others. Here are the best games of July 2018.
The conclusion to Stoic Studio's outstanding trilogy The Banner Saga 3 provided players with multiple ways to change the path of their story. With tough decisions and difficult battles, players were often an outstanding conclusion to this amazing tale. This Viking-inspired epic tale provided what very rare games can, a gratifying finish.
A JRPG at heart Octopath Traveler doesn't mislead. From start to finish this epic odyssey provides the player with 8 incredible experiences along with diverse ways to complete each chapter. The characters can feel generic but thanks to powerful writing along with a complementary soundtrack Octopath Traveler is an outstanding JRPG that infrequently fumbles.
An update to the already stellar 2017 Sonic Mania Plus gives players ample releases to return to the 2D world. The graphics and gameplay are heightened thanks to the addition of 2 more playable characters and a new encore mode. In addition, changes to the overall stages and a new boss battle give veterans a fresh take on these incredible stages. Sonic Mania Plus is more what fans loved about the original and more.
Those hoping for more Mega Man after playing Mega Man X 1 & 2 Legacy Collection should check out 20XX. Not only does it replicate the incredible gameplay found in Capcom's franchise but it's a difficult challenge. The rogue-like adventure has players taking on the entire game in one-go but providing new powerups with each playthrough. Making it easier the more you try. For those still wiping the sour taste of Mighty No. 9 from their months, 20XX will gladly replace it with something sweet.
