Chapter 9:
Connection
My entire team is off trying to find him. God damn it, I’ve nothing to do now. I walked down the empty halls, hands behind my head, just walking. I guess I could try to find Knight, but what good would that be? It’s not like I’ll find him. I take a deep breath and sigh, my breath rises yet it’s warm in here. That’s odd? I continued in my walk, heading down hallways that look interesting. As I walk I start to see less and less people. I shrug it off and keep walking. The hall’s getting dustier and less kept, the floor rough, barely used. The doors looked of old, possibly crappy, redwood as if this area was meant to have nothing of importance. As I move along, watching, picking at the details, noticing slight changes. I finally come across a door that had a doorknob without any dust, and the bottom corner, near the hinge, looking as if something pressed to it. In boredom in go to open the door, only to find it locked. I take my master key I stole from Ricardo and try to open the door. What the hell? It doesn’t work. I looked at it as if something was beckoning me to get in there, something, important, on the other side. I try again, same result. I try to pick the lock, and remove the hinges, nothing.
“Fuck this bullshit.”
I hold my hand up about nine inches from the door, I focus as I gather my thoughts, and I take a deep breath, slowly releasing it. Once I finish releasing a blast of chaotic energy implodes on the door. Once the dust settles and I can see, the door is still there, intact, as if I did nothing. In rage I grab the handle and start to kick the door. My foot hits the bottom right hinge and the doorknob moves. My mouth drops slightly.
“Seriously?”
I push the door open slowly and I look in to the room. Across I see a girl in a black dress, holding a sword that I know every well. She doesn’t seem to know I’ve entered, most likely because the spell on that blasted door kept all sounds out. I slide in, closing the door behind me. I carefully walk along the side wall, creeping closer to her. Once I’m within twenty feet I realize who it is.
“Alessandra?”
In quick haste she turns to look at me, her soft eyes in shock, then turn slowly to a gentle look of happiness. She smiles and walks over to me, the dress swaying as she walks. Her eyes start to dig in to my head as if she’s trying to read my mind.
“Jorn, is that you?
“Yes it is, Allie, why do you have his sword?”
“I wish I knew, that I’ve gathered, it’s to keep him from rampaging, but then again there has to be more to it.”
“There always is. I don’t remember that dress? When did you get it?”
“I was in here, in the dresser, hanging, just like I left it. I can’t believe I forgot about it.”
“Wait? Where are we?”
“In Ricardo’s old room.”
“Wait? His old room, it looks nothing like his new one. Everything looks like it would belong to a different person.”
“… I know…”
“Hmm, what’s wrong?’
“Jorn, was it wrong of me to marry Ricardo? Should I have just not done it? Would things be different if I did?”
“Allie, what’s going on, tell me.”
“Don’t act dumb, you already know.”
“What do you mean? I haven’t seen you since I came to check on you when I heard you where hurt.”
“Liar, it’s the same reason why I asked you last time.”
I wasn’t sure what to do. She was near tears, holding the only sword I know of that has tasted my blood, and ready to kick my ass. I did what I did last time. I walk up to her, look at her softly, then smack her across her face that she stumbles slightly.
“You going to stop bitching and moaning and grow up?”
“… w… why’d you hit me?”
“Because I already spoke the answers to those questions, you know I don’t like to repeat myself.”
“But…”
“No, don’t you dare, or I’ll hit you again. Alessandra, listen, don’t doubt what’s happened. There’s a reason for it. He’s only like this because the events and plans are forcing him to be an icon, an image. He has no choice. He does it so he can later love you, and not worry.”
“How do you know this?”
“Because he won’t shut fuck the up about it. Over and over all I hear is his reason for doing this. I could recite the damn thing word for word right now. The mere mention of your name and he’s off blabbering about you, about you this and that. It’s creepy, that jackass.”
“Oh… really? He talks about me?”
“DIDN’T I JUST GET FINISHED SAYING THAT!”
“Sorry… It’s been a rough few days.”
I looked at her, slightly annoyed, but not too much. She sits down on the bed and looks at the sword. I watch her as she thinks. The room sits in quiet for quite a while. She yawns and stretches her arms, than she places a hand on her belly and rubs it softly. I then notice.
“Allie…”
“Yes?”
“Who… did… that… to… you?”
“Hmm? Oh dear, I haven’t told you yet, I thought Ricardo would have. I’m pregnant with his baby.”
I look at her, and then walk slowly to her; I place my hand on the bulge and rub softly, looking at where my hand is. She smiles at me. I pull my hand away, almost expecting the baby to be in my hand. I place my arms around her and pull her in to a hug. Something I’ve only done two other times. She gasps then embraces me in her arms. I can feel her cry slightly as I hold her. She looks at me with those soft watery eyes. I smile at her.
“Quit your sniffling. If you cry every time I hug you I’ll just have to stop doing that.”
She smiles then squeezes tighter. I keep her in my arms until I start to get bored again. I let go and she stands up, walking over to the door. She looks at back at me.
“Are you coming? I want to find Ricardo.”
“You’re not allowed to see him?”
“Right you’re not the first to say that.”
“You can’t.”
“I don’t care; I’m going to see my love.”
“God you sound just like him, I swear everyday you’re less and less like my sister and more and more like my brother in-law.”
“Maybe where becoming one person.”
“No.”
“What?”
“Just no.”
“What??”
“Allie…”
“Yea?”
“You’re an idiot…”
