Coincidence????? Cursed?????

October 10 2007. It was afternoon. I unlocked my Specialized bike and started my journey towards my home from campus. I approached the intersection between the 5th Street and the River Street.  The road was going downhill and my bike was going to fast. Suddenly I pulled the left brake. In an instant the wheel got stuck into the pothole and I rolled over with my left hand hitting first to the broken gravel. I was totally numb. The bike fell over me hitting my spine. The Stevens police approached and picked me up. My left hand started shaking. I saw bruises in seven areas all over my body. The worst was that a little bit of meat part came off from my lip. The rest of the story is all about being treated in hospital and dealing nasty stuffs regarded bills and medical insurance. However I should thank God that I was lucky enough since my head didn’t hit first to the ground. Lessons to be learned: always wear helmet and don’t even try to use left brake at first before using the right brake because it stops the front wheel. It acts like an e-brake of the car.

October 11 2008. I was reading the Stute newspaper (a campus newspaper), and saw a pretty interesting story. A guy had caught into a bike accident on the AFTERNOON OF OCTOBER 10 2008 in a similar fashion. Guess what, IT WAS ON THE SAME DREADED INTERSECTION. What a coincidence!!!! Or should I say the intersection is cursed. I am just wondering what Stevens should do regarding this situation. The intersection is still broken. It needs to be fixed. Or I should advice putting a signboard warning bikers not to travel through this intersection during the afternoon of any October 10s. Cause I have a nasty feeling that something wrong might happen in October 10 2009.
