Frostpunk is an amazing survival city-builder game that has won the hearts of real-time strategy fans with its gameplay mechanisms and unique settings. While Frostpunk 2 continues to use the mechanisms of the original game, almost every aspect of the gameplay has been revamped.
If you haven't played Frontpunk, I highly recommend doing it before starting the sequel. And if you have, here are the changes and additions to Frostpunk 2 that you might be seeing when playing the game:
A New Story
The sequel takes place thirty years after what happened in Frostpunk and follows the human race as they struggle to survive in the face of an unending winter. Following the former captain's reign, New London is looking for a new leader in Frostpunk 2 to steer it through the future's uncertainties. While this remains the base of the story, there will be certain twists as the gameplay progresses.
City-Building Scope
Building the city in Frostpunk required a lot of planning at the initial phase of the game since the resources were always scattered around the map, which was very complex. The city-building scope has been expanded in Frostpunk 2, challenging you to create whole districts, not just individual structures. This expansion adds a strategic aspect that requires careful planning, engaging you in the process and making you feel challenged and engaged.
Factions and Political Tension
Frostpunk 2 features groups with vested interests in one another's downfall, creating political unrest that must be settled. Taking a stand for or against certain causes could affect your city's economic and architectural landscapes and intellectual trajectory, making you feel influential and important in shaping the game's world.
The Council Hall
In the Council Hall, we see the beginning of a transition from autocratic leadership to deliberative democracy; proposing and voting on legislation requires finesse or patience. Suppose you cannot successfully traverse the intricate ideological terrain. In that case, a potential civil war might break out, impressing upon you the weight of your decisions and the importance of careful planning.
Frostland Exploration
We explored other territories for rescue in the base game, but the game took place on the same map. We had to send groups of scouts to different locations to gather resources and ensure their timely return before losing both the scouts and resources. However, in Forstpunk 2, the forestlands have been segmented into territories, with the most challenging regions designated for seasoned Scouts.
Another option is to set up outposts or colonies, each with its own economy and logistics system, and link them together by railroads so that resources may be steadily supplied. This will be a vital aspect of the gameplay, something we saw in Frostpunk's 'On The Edge' expansion, which introduced new gameplay elements and challenges. Frostpunk 2 will build upon these concepts.
Community-Driven Changes
Even though Frostpunk launched in 2018, the community has been active due to the game's reputation. Everyone who played the original kept sharing their views on features that could improve the game, and 11 Bit Studios paid attention to that. Based on player feedback, several changes have been made to Frostpunk 2.
These include reworked regions, heat-generating HUBs, central structures that produce and distribute heat to nearby buildings, enhanced city administration menus, and 'Zoom Stories'. These stories give a bird' s-eye view of New London life, allowing you to see how your decisions affect the city and its inhabitants more personally.
Frostpunk 2, much awaited by fans, will be released on PC on September 20th, with PC Game Pass providing early access on launch day. The console launch will occur later. Stay tuned with NoobFeed for the review and guides on Frostpunk 2.
