Games We Can't Wait to Try On PlayStation 5

Sony recently made the PlayStation 5 official. As a result, the hype has reached an all-time high.
Now that Sony’s next-gen console is expected to release sometime between October and December of 2020, gamers can’t wait to have a chance to jump in and see for themselves what the hype is all about.
Is the faster load times all that great? Will the graphics really be all that better? How about the gameplay? Will better graphics result in better gameplay?
All of those questions will be answered once the PS5 releases and the games follow.
Speaking of games, Sony has not released an official list of launch titles. However, we do have a number of games that’s already been confirmed to release for the PS5. Add in a little bit of research, and we were able to come up with a list worth reading.
Below are some of the games that we can’t wait to try once the PS5 is out. You might want to get your PSN credits and get ready to snatch these games when they are released!
Outriders
Expected release date: December 2020
Developed by Polish game developers, People Can Fly, and published by Final Fantasy creators, Square Enix, Outriders is an ambitious and entirely new IP that marries RPG elements with co-op gameplay and third-person shooting.
Story-wise, the game is set in Enoch where humanity plays the role of conquerors. However, things don’t go smoothly as planned. For some unknown reason, things go haywire. To help fix his problem, humanity sends in some of the best of the best. Specifically, heroes with superpowers who have access to all sorts of high-tech weaponry.
In Outriders, gamers will choose from four different classes. Each one will have their own unique abilities. More importantly, the game will contain co-op elements. This means that we should expect all sorts of interactions between the game’s multiple classes. However, it’s also worth noting that Outriders is something that players can “start and finish” on their own.
Perhaps more importantly, the developers assured that the title will feature some serious storytelling.
Having worked on titles such as the Gears of Wars franchise and Fortnite: Save the World, and People Can Fly, with the help of Square Enix, could have the makings of a multi-million IP on their hands if they can deliver on the game’s premise of cooperative and action-oriented gameplay.
We’ll know for sure if Outriders will live up to expectations once it releases on December 2020.
Godfall
Expected release date: Holiday 2020
Godfall is one of the first titles ever to be confirmed as one of the launch titles for the all-new PlayStation 5, and well, it looks like Sony’s not shy of bringing out the big guns.
With Gearbox (Borderlands) and Counterplay Games (God of War) working together, Godfall is expected to usher in a new genre that the developers refer to as “loot-slasher”.
What this basically means is that the developers have combined the looting mechanics of Borderlands. But, at the same time, they found a way to maximize the impact of having loot. Meanwhile, they’re also requiring players to sharpen their skills to win and complete the game. Essentially, this means that players will have an incentive to grind for the best gear available. Yet, at the same time, they’ll have to “git gud” if they want to finish the game.
How that works, we don’t know exactly just yet. However, what we do know is that Godfall will take every advantage afforded to it graphics-wise to help showcase what the PS5’s raw power is capable of.
One thing also worth looking forward to in Godfall is that the game is reportedly being designed for co-op gameplay as well, with players being able to play it alone, or with a partner, or with two other players as a trio.
Warframe
Expected release date: TBA
One of the decades’ least-heralded titles, Warframe has been quietly chugging along. Slowly, the free-to-play title has amassed a player count that has already since reached 50 million just 7 years after it was made available for the public in 2013.
Originally available for the Microsoft Windows platform, Warframe has seen itself ported over to multiple consoles.
After a well-received port for the Nintendo Switch, the developers, Digital Extremes, wants to make the game available on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at launch.
There’s no official confirmation yet if Warframe will be immediately available upon launch yet though, but one thing for sure is that Warframe should benefit a lot from the hardware improvements that come with the next-gen consoles.
Gothic
Expected release date: TBA
Another title that’s been officially confirmed for the PlayStation 5, among others, Gothic is a little-known RPG whose name likely won’t resonate with many gamers today. However, dial back the clock to around two decades and you’ll find that the game could’ve been what The Elder Scrolls is today. Its biggest problem? The lack of marketing and high system requirements.
For those that were able to play it, Gothic was an instant hit. Critics, in particular, loved its storyline and the complex interactions the players could have had with other in-game characters. Also, for the time, its graphics were top-notch.
Unfortunately, Gothic failed to gain recognition and would’ve been forgotten already if not for THQ Nordic’s decision to release a playable demo on Steam in December 2019.
Reintroducing the game’s unique mix of open-world gameplay with resource gathering and monster hunting with a new take on the game’s setting via a two-hour-long teaser, the initial signs of what the remake of the classic RPG title could become are encouraging to say the least.
Given the sheer raw power that Gothic will now have at its disposal with the PlayStation 5, today’s gamers will be in for quite the treat once it officially releases.
Just don’t expect it release anytime this 2020 with the development still in its early stages.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
Expected release date: Sometime in 2021
Hot on the heels of the success of the Middle-Earth games, Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, another title based on the Lord of the Rings franchise is set to release, but only this time, it’s going to feature everybody’s favourite corrupted little hobbit.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is currently being developed by Daedalic Entertainment, a gaming development company best known for its point-and-click adventure games.
Suffice to say, people are excited to see how the game will turn out and what kind of approach the German developers will take. But, despite the uncertainty surrounding it, one thing that’s guaranteed is that the caves and forests of Mordor will look absolutely brilliant thanks to the ray-tracing capabilities of the GPU of the PlayStation 5.
As for the story of the game itself, Carsten Fichtelmann, who is the CEO and co-founder of Daedalic Entertainment, revealed that the game will mostly focus on Gollum’s story prior to his appearance in the books.
Players will get a chance to see how Gollum came to be sometime this 2021.
What Other Titles Are Expected to Release on the PlayStation 5?
For a console expected to release in less than a year, details are mum regarding which titles the PlayStation 5 is going to launch with. But, considering how successful Sony has been regarding how they’ve handled first-party and exclusive titles in the past, it’s safe to say that they deserve the benefit of our collective doubts.
With that said, many other titles are all but expected to release on the PlayStation 5 at this point, either at launch or months down the line.
Sequels or ports to new IPs and rebooks or remakes such as Horizon Zero Dawn 2, Spiderman 2, God of War 2, as well as Death Stranding, The Last of Us II, and Final Fantasy VII, should all be available for the PlayStation 5 by the time that the console launches.
Other rumored titles from established franchises that may or may not make their presence felt in the leadup to the console’s launch include the likes of Arkham Legacy, Gran Turismo 7, Dragon Age 4, as well as a new Ratchet & Clank title, among others.
Final Thoughts
Now that we know that the PlayStation 5 is going to launch later this year, the only question in the minds of many now is, “what kind of games will be available at launch?”
Hopefully, we were able to provide some clarity.
Of course, these launch titles and other highly-anticipated games aren’t set in stone just yet. Their launch dates could very well be postponed, especially when you consider what’s happening in the world right now. Not to mention, an entirely new game or two might come out of nowhere, as is usually the case with console launches.
Also, it’s important to keep in mind that Sony has already confirmed that the majority of the most popular titles for the PlayStation 4 will be compatible with the PlayStation 5 at launch.
So, even if the PlayStation 5’s library is looking thin right now, rest assured that you’ll have plenty to keep you occupied come Holiday 2020.
