Happy Victory Day

Well most people around the world are celebrating Mother's Day today.   While that is important, there is a much more important holiday my family has been celebrating today.  Victory Day commemorates May 9th, 1945 when the Soviet troops raised the Soviet flag over Berlin, officially declaring the defeat of Germany and the end of World War II in Europe.

In Russia, and other former Soviet countries this is a huge holiday, bigger than any other during the year.  I remember when I was a child my family and I would gather in city square/district (ploshad) near the monuments and watch the parades for hours upon hours.  The parades consist of the current military and their vehicles, along with World War II veterans.  So if anyone else here is a comrade and is celebrating Den Pobedi (Victory Day), happy Victory Day to you!
