How I Spent My Friday
Editorial by King on May 30, 2009
As you may know, a teaser countdown for a new Metal Gear game has been up on the Konami website. I had not been paying much attention over the last few days, but I was wondering why the MGS discussion boards were so popular lately so I clicked one and found out about the countdown. I immediately went to watch it, and ended up spending quite a long time trying to decipher the messages.
For those of you who haven't yet been, see the countdown for yourself at this link: http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next/index.html
Pictures of two characters and many letters pop up after time. The letters are confusing as hell, and I don't even want to begin to guess what they mean. I did hear someone say though, that the letters when looked at in a mirror and placed in a certain order contained the letter ZEP3 which would mean Kojima was at work on a new installment in the Zone of the Enders franchise.
At first glance the pictures of two characters appear. The first one appears to be Raiden, but if you look closely you notice a lot of differences in his appearance since MGS4, including his eye color, bar code on his head, different helmet design, maybe some others. Some people guess that this may be Gray Fox or Sunny. The next picture strongly resembles Big Boss, younger than MGS4 but older than MGS3. It pretty much looks like him, but some suggest it could really be Solidus Snake or some other clone of his.
After this I went to various message boards to try and find some more info on all of this. I have lurked around and read through probably hundreds of MGS5 plot theories and who the pictures represent, and after spending so much time thinking about it, I have come to the conclusion that I still don't know hardly anything about this.
But I must say one of my personal favorite ideas is the idea of Gray Fox being featured in the game. He is such a badass and I'd love to explore his story some more. The game would take place after the events of Portable Ops and before (and possibly even during part of) the original Metal Gear game, and the story would be about his relationship with Big Boss and the start of Outer Heaven.
During all of this I kind of touched up on my MGS history, and it makes me want to replay all of the games this summer. Hopefully Hideo Kojima will give me a good birthday present and let us know more about this game.
