Interviewing Curtis Humphrey
People by Tanya on Nov 25, 2009
Most of you know him as nerdboy. He used to be one hell of an active forum user but in course of time he has changed and became more of a writer. He is probably one of the very first users of this site. So, I decided to interview him and learn a bit more about him. So, here you go dear users; I present you Curtis Humphrey.
Tell us about yourself and share something you usually don’t with general people.
Well for the basics, I'm 18 years old and currently in my first year of college. I'm currently working at an Inner city ministry with younger kids who don't have very good living conditions. As in most of these kids go home to homes without doors and such. It's pretty sad but were doign a lot of things to help out the families. I'm hoping I can one day be a game designer. And something I usually don't tell people is that I'm really really big into Charities. I love hearing about all the different charities that there are helping children and families.
What type of games you like the most and name few of your most favorite games?
My favorite genre is probably RPG. I'll play almost any type of game though. I like action, puzzle, rpg, fps, sports...anything really :P As for favorites though.... ;)
The games that stick out the most to me are Dragon Quest 8, MGS4, Demon's Souls, Shadow of the Collossus and WipEout HD.
Your facebook relationship status says that you are ‘Engaged’. So, please tell us about her :)
:) Well we put our status to engaged because we wanted to freak some of my closer friends out lol. We're still a bit young for that but it's something we've both talked about and decided that we won't actually get married until we're older and with jobs ;)
She is however, the most amazing person in my life. I don't know how she puts up with my nerdiness but we love each other. She's made me happier than I've ever been and I can't thank her enough for all that she does for me. :)
You were one of the very first members of this website. But you left suddenly and then came back after few months with a new image. What was the reason behind this break?
There are a lot of reasons to be honest, anything from TBP (the big penguin), my job, to just other random things. I'm back for good however and don't plan on dissapearing anytime soon. :D
Most of the old member know that you like penguins. So tell us Curtis, what was the thebigpenguin about? Why were you planning to launch it? What’s its current status?
TheBigPenguin was initially designed to be more of a gamers solution to facebook. I can't say a whole lot about it. Some things didn't fall through and for now TBP is on indefinite hold. I don't know if it'll ever happen to be honest but I can say that if it does happen it'll have to go back to the drawing board. As far as the reason for the sudden delay. It had to do with personal family issues as well as some other things but that's the most I can say really.
You surely have the talent to be a good writer. Do you plan to improve on this? If yes, then; how?
Well the best way to improve is through practice so I'll be writing more to improve :P Writing is something I've been doing my whole life so I love to do it whenever I get the chance. My passion of course is writing about games and creating my own stories. Something I hope I can do my whole life as a hobby. :)
Do you miss AoA (Alliance of Awesome)? Any chance of AoA fulfilling its destiny?
Ahhh the good old days ;). I honestly don't know what will happen with AoA. I might have to get on with that ;) I'd love to see an AoA revival happen.
You’ve mentioned in a forum post that you weren’t having a pleasant time few months back. What happened really?
Long story short, at the age of 12 my dad was diagnosed with cancer. At the time I thought cancer meant that the person was guaranteed to die. From the age of 12 until just before I turned 18 (last december) I had to watch as my dad went through 5 different types of cancer, diabetes, having a stroke and a seizure. Life was pretty bad during those years. My escape quickly became writing and video games. At the same time I went through everyday with the thought that my dad might die that day and I'd have to become "the man of the house" and raise my brother. It caused me to mature very quickly.
However, by the grace of God, our family made it. He's still alive and kicking and we're having a good life. Just a few months before I turned 18 I met this girl named Renee. At the time my dad was just recovering for his fifth cancer and she came into my life very unexpectedly. It wasn't long until I fell head over heels for her though :) Like I mentioned above, she's given me hope that life will get better and better. It's amazing how much my life has turned around. From my dad getting better to Renee helping me see how amazing life is. :D
Do you plan to stay at NoobFeed for long? What’s in your mind about this site and its future? Is this true that you are going to be a NoobFeed official writer? What’s your reaction on this?
I plan on staying for as long as I can. :) I hope to see noobfeed grow through many more years to become even bigger and better :D I think Noobfeed could become a really great place for gamers of all types to come. And all I've heard is mumblings about me being a writer, nothing official yet ;) Though I'd like to write for noobfeed :)
Thank you for your time Curtis. Tell us anything you feel like saying to the readers. And, have a nice day :)
Life is short, enjoy it :) Keep gaming everybody and thanks for your time. :D
