The confrontation with Lumacchio, Leader of the Bastards, in Lies of P: Overture, represents one of the most demanding boss fights in the game. This guide gives you a complete plan for how to beat this boss, with step-by-step plans and strategies.
Preparation Before the Fight
Before fighting Lumacchio, it's essential to get all the materials and tools you need to give yourself the best chance of winning. It's best to use the Miraculous Ampoule during Phase Two because it raises your maximum HP based on your base HP.
Applying Acid Abrasive prior to the encounter is advised, whereas fire abrasive is unnecessary for this fight. A Legion Magazine must be obtained to enable the use of the Legion Arm during the battle.
Two primary weapons should be readied: the Pipe Wrench Head, which provides substantial damage and serves as a reliable option if the initial weapon breaks, and the Salamander Dagger with Changed Handle to scale with Motivity and serve as the primary alternate weapon for stagger-focused damage.
Before each engagement, the Legion Arm must be equipped and fully charged. If your full HP stays low, leveling up before you use the Miraculous Ampoule will help you stay alive longer and make its effects stronger.
Phase One Strategy
Upon initiating the encounter, the player should first ensure that Acid Abrasive has been applied. Observing Lumacchio's approach patterns is critical; he may run straight or perform a last-moment zigzag.
When the running pattern commits, launching the Legion Arm attack at the optimal moment will knock him down and allow for heavy damage.
Each time Lumacchio is knocked to the ground, a sufficient distance should be created to provoke another running approach, enabling repeated hooks with the Legion Arm that break posture and open opportunities for powerful rear attacks.
Continuous monitoring of the Legion Arm meter is necessary; if recharge is needed, briefly withdraw to restore the meter before the next hook attempt.
If a Legion Arm knockdown does not immediately floor Lumacchio, he may continue slashing—timing permitting, a backstab should be performed for massive damage.
Missing the backstab often provokes an umbrella-defensive move, which still provides a substantial opportunity for another backstab attempt. During Phase One, it's essential to be aware of your stamina and positioning so that you don't get stuck in the middle of an animation and lose control of the engagement rhythm.
Phase Two Strategy
At the start of Phase Two, the Miraculous Ampoule should be used immediately to maximize HP; farming additional levels beforehand can further boost survivability.
The initial onslaught features erratic and powerful attacks, including a red-area strike that demands precise dodge timing ("D timing") when Lumacchio is directly overhead.
Emphasis should be placed on evasion rather than blocking to preserve stamina. After surviving these opening waves, switching to the alternate weapon—such as the Salamander Dagger—and landing consecutive hits will stagger Lumacchio repeatedly; continuous hits with sufficient stamina will keep him staggered most of the time, opening brief windows for healing or additional damage.
Weapon durability must be monitored closely; if the current weapon breaks, the Pipe Wrench Head should be equipped immediately for its high damage output.
When the secondary Ampoule that recharges Legion Arm, stamina, and other resources becomes available, it should be used to enable multiple hits of the triple Fable Arts charge, resulting in immense damage potential.
During these windows, trading blows can be advantageous. Remaining calm and deliberate is vital: perfect play is not required, and mistakes can be adapted to by returning to the core rhythm of dodge–counterattack–heal.
Patience is Key
Continuous tracking of HP, stamina, and Legion Arm meter is crucial to avoid resource depletion during critical moments.
Spatial awareness helps predict when to create distance and when to commit to attacks, while practiced timing for backstabs and Legion Arm hooks maximizes posture breaks.
Patience is key: understanding Lumacchio's patterns, even when they appear erratic, enables consistent openings. Level farming before Phase Two reduces pressure by boosting HP for greater margins of error.
