In Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, you can carry three different weapons in your active loadout. You have the freedom to switch between these weapons during any turn of a battle.

Every weapon comes with basic attacks that cost nothing to use. To perform more powerful moves, you must use Skills, which require Stamina.

It is important to remember that Skills vary even between weapons of the same type. For instance, two different Great Swords might grant you entirely different abilities.

Navigating Skill Types and Targeting

When selecting a Skill, you should pay attention to its attack type. Many Skills allow you to choose between Power, Speed, or Technical, which is vital for winning a Head-to-Head. However, some specialized Skills do not offer this choice.

You also need to consider how a move targets an enemy. While many attacks let you focus on specific body parts to deal Part Damage in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, any Skill that targets all enemies at once will not allow for specific part targeting.

You can check these details at any time by looking at the Skill tooltip in your menu. For example, if you see the rock-paper-scissors icons on a Hammer move like Perfect Crush, you know you can pick its attack type.

If it says it hits all enemies, you will not be able to break a specific part with that move in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.

Understanding Damage Types and Resistances

Every monster and even individual monster parts have unique resistances to different damage types. To be successful, you must match your weapon to these weaknesses.

The six weapons in the game are divided into three main categories. The Slashing group includes the Great Sword and Long Sword. For Blunt damage, you can use the Hammer or Hunting Horn.

If you need Piercing damage, you should choose the Bow or Gunlance. Each weapon has a distinct identity and playstyle. While some players focus on pure efficiency, the variety in how these weapons handle means you can choose the ones that best fit your personal preference.
