Plane Crashes & Reunions

Blink 182, founded in 1992 in Poway, California, are one of the most successful pop punk bands from the 90s.  The band consisted of Tom Delonge (lead vocals/guitar), Mark Hoppus (bass/vocals), and Travis Barker (drums).  They've released 5 studio albums: Cheshire Cat (1994), Dude Ranch (1997), Enema of the State (1999), Take Off Your Pants And Jacket (2001), and Blink 182 (2003).  You may know the hit songs, "Dammit," "What's My Age Again," "All The Small Things," "First Date," and "I Miss You."

Problems formed between all the band members when Delonge felt the need to spend more time with his family.  Blink 182's last show was on December 16, 2004 in Dublin, Ireland.  The next tour planned was canceled on February 22, 2005.  After much tension, Blink's band manager called Hoppus and Barker, saying that Delonge has quit the band.  This was the beginning of a nearly four year hiatus, leaving their fans upset and anxious.

Let's fast foward to fall of 2008...

On September 19th, 2008, Travis Barker was critically injured in a plane crash, along with DJ AM.  On September 21st, Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Burn Center, reported that Barker had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on the lower half of his body and his torso.  They said he would be fully recovered in a year.  However, in only two months, Barker returned back to the studio.  Barker said on his first television appearance after the crash, "I'm already playing my drums again, and I'm already back in the studio".  I, Nay, believe that this was a sign for something on a more positive note...

On February 8th, 2009, all Blink 182 members, including Barker, appeared together to present an award at the 51st Grammy Awards. Barker said, "We used to play music together, and we decided we're going to play music together again." After that, Hoppus said, "Blink-182 is back!"  There was a message on their official website stating that it is confirmed that they are reuniting.  There is also a world tour planned for this summer (2009) and a new record coming out.  Delonge said that Blink will be touring in "a big event" this summer.  He also said that the new Blink record will be a mixture of his previous and current bands, Box Car Racer and Angels & Airwaves.

So there you have it folks, Blink 182 is finally back.
