If you want to get Aerodactyl in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, you first need a Pokémon that can use Cut and Surf. These moves are needed to reach the right places and collect the fossil item that evolves into Aerodactyl. The process starts in Pewter City, then ends at Cinnabar Island, where the fossil is brought back to life.

Where to Find Old Amber in Pewter City

Go to Pewter City and head to the top-right side of town. There is a small tree blocking the path, so use Cut to remove it. After that, go through the building and look for the scientist near the table. Talk to him, and he will give you Old Amber. This is the fossil item needed to get Aerodactyl.

How to Reach Cinnabar Island

Once you have Old Amber, go to Cinnabar Island. You can surf south from Pallet Town if needed. If you already have Fly, that will make the trip much easier. Upon arrival, head into the lab where the scientist revives the fossils. This is the place where Old Amber becomes Aerodactyl.

If you want the process to feel smoother, it helps to keep one empty space in your party. That way, Aerodactyl goes straight into your team instead of being sent somewhere else.

How to Revive Aerodactyl

Enter the lab and talk to the scientist inside. Give him Old Amber, and he will begin the resurrection process. After that, leave the room and go back in. When you speak to him again, he will hand over Aerodactyl. That is the full method for getting this fossil Pokémon in the game.

If another fossil is still awaiting revival, it may slightly slow the process. Finishing the other fossil first can make things easier and quicker.

Important Note About Shiny Aerodactyl

The attached script mentions soft resetting for a shiny version by saving before talking to the scientist. However, major Pokémon references generally state that revived fossil Pokémon in FireRed and LeafGreen, including Aerodactyl, are not available in shiny form. So, in normal gameplay, this method should be used to get Aerodactyl, not to shiny hunt it.

What You Get at the End

After the lab process is complete, you receive Aerodactyl from Old Amber on Cinnabar Island. As long as you have Cut, Surf, access to Pewter City, and the fossil lab, you can complete this quickly and add one of Kanto’s most iconic fossil Pokémon to your team.
