PRAGMATA Guide | Early Upgrade Choices

The best upgrades to focus on first and how to build a stronger loadout

The best improvements to PRAGMATA are those that fix a real problem. The best early choices are those that make fights easier, give you more time to deal damage, or let you make up for mistakes without losing your momentum. A stronger build is less about finding the one perfect unlock and more about making the whole combat loop work better.

Start with being able to stay alive and being consistent

The best early upgrade path is the one that keeps Hugh alive longer and makes the default kit work better. Every room is less punishing now that you have more health and steadier baseline damage, especially while you're still getting used to moving and hacking. Those upgrades don't always seem flashy, but they help in every fight.

Next, make hacking windows better

When the basic survival problems get better, extra hacking strength starts to be more useful. It is easier to turn a clean route into real damage when nodes are stronger and armor break windows are longer. That also makes special weapons feel more useful because they don't waste as many shots during short openings.

Plan your loadouts ahead of time for the room

A good upgrade path is only part of the answer. The other half is making sure you have the right tools and bringing a loadout that fits the area. Control tools are more important when enemies are fast or angry. When a boss comes, burst damage and cleaner hacking value go up. The game is at its best when upgrades and loadouts work well together.

Use the Shelter to make the build more flexible

As part of the plan, you will need to go back to the Shelter to make changes to upgrades and equipment. That flexibility is what keeps a build from getting stuck in one style too soon and lets it grow naturally. A good upgrade plan should make the next part easier, not just add numbers to the paper.
