Welcome to the second part of this list we've crafted for you. Don't forget to check out the first part here. Video games and books are most definetively a match made in heaven. In a time where transmedia is breaking through and conventional narrative is becoming part of a distant past, tale-telling from different angles is much richer for, both, the creators and the consumers. Grab a copy of any of these novels, not only they are cheap, but they are worth every dime you invest. You know you want them.
Mass Effect
The Mass Effect universe is huge and there is nothing else they can create to make it bigger, right? Wrong. Mass Effect is the prime example in which the games of a franchise are nothing but the tip of the iceberg of a wider universe. There are tons of stories that remain untold in this extraordinary piece of science fiction, but the ones found in the novels are as exciting as the games themselves.
Alan Wake
A book based on a game about a writer and tormented by his own work, that might or might not be the creation of a second writer. What could possibly go wrong? Alan Wake is one of Remedy’s masterpieces and a game beloved by many. For those who are into literature and videogames, the Alan Wake novel is a must read.
Resident Evil
20 years from now, when we look back and wonder where did the zombiemania in videogames come from, we can be sure most of us will think of Resident Evil as the igniting spark of this living dead bonfire. In the verge of the new century, Capcom gave us Resident Evil and, ever since, zombies made its way to the public’s hearts (and brains). A well-crafted horror story couldn’t stay confined just in a series of games; hence the 7 books published.
Maybe there will be a day when we get tired of zombies, but today is not that day. Resident Evil and its novels will thrill you and make you chill. It is a series full of terror, secrecy, conspiracies and action, and it deserves a special place among terror fans.
The Elder Scrolls
If you’ve ever played any The Elder Scrolls game, then you know there is a lot of in-game reading material; hundreds of books where to choose from that you always “save for later” and never actually read, because it’s just too much material. The Elder Scrolls takes fantasy RPG to the next level and creates one of the richest mythologies in video games. That’s why the publication of two novels seems like a mere grain of sand in this expanding desert. Fan of The Elder Scrolls or not, but The Elder Scrolls: The Infernal City and Lord of Souls: An Elder Scrolls Novel will keep you attached to them till the last pages.
Don't miss the third and last part of this list where literature and video games meet. If you're a sci-fi fan, you'll be in for a treat. In the mean time, why don't you grab some of these amazing novels and start a whole new journey on worlds you know very well already?
