Town Schedules Violent Video Game Burning Party

What do you do when an atrocity happens and you trying to find an solution to prevent it from happening? Well the town of Southington, Connecticut has sponsored a party to burn violent video games, music and movies on Saturday January 12th. Citizens are asked to bring discs to a local theater at 9 am, break them, and then toss them into a dumpster to be incinerated. I assume if anyone has any digital products they should bring their hard drives as well.

The reason for the burning is on SouthintonSOS.org and encourages people to take part in this event. According to the article “The group’s action is not intended to be construed as statement declaring that violent video games were the cause of the shocking violence in Newtown on December 14” but instead “that there is ample evidence that violent video games, along with violent media of all kinds, including  TV and Movies portraying story after story showing a continuous stream of violence and killing, has contributed to increasing aggressiveness, fear, anxiety and is desensitizing our children to acts of violence including bullying.  Social and political commentators, as well as elected officials including the president, are attributing violent crime to many factors including inadequate gun control laws, a culture of violence and a recreational culture of violence”.

Participants will be given a gift certificate donated by members of the organization for being a responsible citizen because burning a large amount of disc is environmentally healthy.

So if you want to take part in this event grab your new copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Noobfeed's 2012 game of the year, and throw it into the pit. I'm sure you'll make that $60 back soon.
