Lanterns are essential checkpoints in Valor Mortis, allowing players to restore resources, level up their attributes, and fast travel between previously discovered locations. As William explores the game's interconnected environments, activating these checkpoints becomes increasingly important for surviving difficult encounters and reaching hidden areas.

Valor Mortis Lantern

There are 49 Lanterns in Valor Mortis, including 48 named checkpoints spread across the game's regions and one additional Lantern inside the Abandoned Church hub. While most are encountered through regular story progression, keeping track of their locations makes exploration and backtracking considerably easier.

This guide covers all Lantern locations in Valor Mortis, organized by region, along with important landmarks, fast travel information, and tips for using checkpoints efficiently.

How Lanterns Work in Valor Mortis

Lanterns function as checkpoints where William can rest, recover resources, and improve his abilities. Once a Lantern is activated and rested at, it becomes available as a respawn point and, after fast travel is unlocked, a travel destination.

Resting at a Lantern provides several important benefits:

  • Restores Health and Nephtoglobin.
  • Replenishes healing resources and ammunition.
  • Allows you to spend Catalysts on attribute upgrades.
  • Provides access to Ferrofluid Flask upgrades.
  • Enables fast travel between previously discovered Lanterns.
  • Sets your respawn location after death.

However, resting also causes most regular enemies to respawn, so make sure you are prepared before continuing through dangerous areas.

How to Find Missing Lanterns in Valor Mortis

If you have overlooked a checkpoint, open the fast travel menu at an activated Lantern and compare the available destinations with the regional lists above.

Missing Lanterns generally indicate areas that you have not fully explored or checkpoints you have not rested at.

To find overlooked Lanterns:

  • Revisit regions with missing fast-travel destinations.
  • Search unexplored side paths and interconnected passages.
  • Check locations near major boss encounters.
  • Use Nephtoglobin traversal abilities to access previously unreachable routes.
  • Rest at newly discovered Lanterns to register them as travel destinations.

You can also consult the Valor Mortis Lantern map and checklist for individual checkpoint placements if you need more precise navigation.
