RTX GPUs Get DLSS 5 Preset C Frame Generation Through MFG Unlocker

Nvidia limits some frame-generation features and DLSS models to newer graphics cards, but third-party tools can enable them on older RTX GPUs. MFG Unlocker and D18 let you access frame generation preset C and the newer DLSS 5 model. With the right files and settings, these tools can increase FPS, reduce the performance cost of neural rendering, and improve frame-generation performance.

MFG Unlocker is a free frame-generation unlock tool that gives RTX graphics cards access to Nvidia's preset C, a lighter frame-generation model. The second tool is D18, a free DLSS 5 overlay application that runs Nvidia's newer model. We can use both tools to enable these features on RTX GPUs that do not officially support them.

MFG Unlocker Enables Frame Generation Preset C

Previously, we used RHI, a free installer application, to configure DLSS 5 settings. Now, we can apply those settings to any RTX GPU. If you have followed earlier guides for unlocking Nvidia features, the process will be familiar. MFG Unlocker provides preset C, while D18 enables the newer DLSS 5 model.

If you have an RTX 40 or RTX 50 series graphics card, the Nvidia app can also provide preset C through its beta features. That method is covered later for those who want a simpler setup. First,o obtain the file required for preset C. This preset is available in the newer frame generation file, version 310.9.16, which is included in Streamline 2.14.16, Nvidia's free developer package.

Download the required file from the provided source. If you have previously configured a frame generation override through the Nvidia app, the file may already be on your PC. Open the folder containing your game's executable file and move the game's original frame generation file to another location for safekeeping.

Copy the new file into the same folder. If the file comes from the Nvidia directory, rename it to match the filename used by your game. Next, download MFG Unlocker 1.6.1 from GitHub and extract the archive. Rename the file inside the ZIP archive to match the specified filename, then place it next to your game's actual executable file.

Some games may refuse to start when MFG Unlocker is installed, while D18 may display a warning.

Some games turn off their frame generation switch on RTX 30 Series graphics cards. If you encounter this issue, open the MFG Unlocker menu, go to Frame Generation, enable the Game Frame Generation Option Unlock, and restart the game. After restarting, enable the game's own frame generation setting.

MFG Unlocker modifies the frame generation process the game already uses rather than replacing the game's frame generation option. Frame generation also requires hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. Open Windows Settings, go to System > Display > Graphics, and select Change default graphics settings. Enable hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling and restart your PC.

Once frame generation is running, open the MFG Unlocker menu and navigate to the frame generation settings. Set the DLSS G preset to preset C. Preset C uses a lighter model within frame generation. Nvidia says performance gains can reach 35%, but actual results depend on the game and hardware.
