There's something to a property coming full circle, when crossing over media. For instance, Street Fighter was a game, then a movie, then a game about the movie. Get ready to be excited, because Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Infinite Combate, which is the full name of this game, just launched on PlayStation 4.
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Infinite Combate is also known as DanMachi, which is the easier way to pronounce the anime series. DanMachi is a story about a person, Bell, who wants to become a hero. In this world, adventurers pledge loyalty to a guild, known as a Familia, with a deity at the helm. In Bell's case, however, they start as the only member of their guild, with the goddess Hestia overlooking their activities.
The rest of the world building is pretty much in line with video games, so this DanMachi adaptation is, unsurprisingly, a dungeon crawler. Players will go into areas to defeat monsters and collect loot, which will also allow them to level up skills, as shown in the anime. There's also crafting involved. If you haven't watched the show yet, it serves as an excellent primer.
The DanMachi game will start with a Story mode that either goes through the perspective of Bell or one of their interests, the prestigious Ais Wallenstein. After completing this mode, the game will offer randomly generated dungeons for replay value. Additionally, since the anime is a harem fantasy, there are also relationship building systems in place, so you can covet your favorite waifu. We'll leave any age disparity aside. If it means anything, Bell is 14 and the world is built around that.
There is quite the staggered release around the DanMachi game. The PlayStation 4 version of this release is out now in Europe and will drop in North America on August 11, 2020. Unfortunately, the developer just announced a slight delay for PC on Steam, though that version of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Infinite Combate is still expected this month.
