Funcom and Shiro Games have announced that Dune: Spice Wars will begin its Steam Early Access journey on April 26. When Dune: Spice Wars was announced at The Game Awards 2021 in December, it was the first time in two decades that gamers would be able to step foot on Dune in a game.
Arrakis, the sole source of the most precious resource in the cosmos, focuses on this real-time strategy and 4X hybrid, an homage to Frank Herbert's sci-fi classic Dune.
The fourth playable faction, the Fremen, was also introduced today as part of the Early Access release. The Fremen are in a unique position to expand their sphere of influence and seize control of the planet because of their increased mobility and resistance to the open desert, reduced vulnerability to the colossal sandworm, and improved ability to form alliances with hidden Sietches (neutral native settlements). Players can choose from the Atreides, Harkonnen, Smugglers, or Fremen, each having its unique advantages and disadvantages in terms of military might, infiltration, political influence, and resource production. Exploring the desert, expanding your territory, and taking control is essential if the spice keeps flowing.
The Dune: Spice Wars publisher Funcom is also working on a Dune-themed open-world survival game. The firm is the exclusive creator and publisher of PC and console Dune games.
