Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Guide | How To Beat The Chromatic Luster Boss

You’re going to encounter Chromatic Luster at the start of Act Two in the battlefield area. After you come in from that large door, go around and come down a big pipe.

Keep walking all the way down toward the gate where there’s a strange NPC standing in the middle. Make a right turn and continue going until the end. Then make another right turn and you’ll find Chromatic Luster.

Step 1: Avoid Fire

Do not use fire whatsoever. This enemy doesn’t just resist fire—it absorbs it and turns it into health. You’ll want to leave Maelle out of this fight. Instead, go in with Verso, Lune, and Sciel.

Step 2: Handle the Burn Status

Every time you get hit by this boss, you gain burn status. If you don’t get rid of that quickly, the boss can convert it into health—and that’s a lot of health. You need to equip some proper healing skills.

For Verso, use Perfect Recovery, which heals and removes status effects. For Lune, use Healing Light, which does the same. Sciel has Harvest, which heals but doesn’t remove the burn status effect.

There might be a picto that removes status effects when you heal using an item. If you have it, equip it. Even if you don’t, it’s still possible to win with a party that can’t remove burn, as long as you manage things carefully. Just be wary when you stack three burn effects—that’s when it becomes a real problem.

Alternatively, you can go in with fewer party members, such as just Lune and Verso. You can even try it with only Lune.

The fewer party members you have, the fewer chances the boss has to inflict burn, which means fewer chances of it healing. That wasn’t the strategy used in this particular fight, but it could make the battle easier.

Step 3: Maximize Offense with Lightning

The boss is weak to lightning damage. For Lune, equip Electrify. It’s a low single-target lightning skill that only costs one action point, which makes it very efficient. Thunderfall is another good option, dealing medium lightning damage over a couple of hits.

You also need skills that can break the boss once the yellow break bar fills up. For Verso, use Perfect Break.

For Lune, you might consider Mayhem, but Rock Slide might be a better option. Mayhem requires a full Stains setup, while Rock Slide just needs enough action points, making it easier and faster to use in battle.

With this strategy in place, the fight should go much more smoothly. Stick to lightning attacks, manage the burn status, and avoid using fire completely. Best of luck, and enjoy the rest of your journey in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
