Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Guide | How To Beat the Chromatic Jar

You can find the Chromatic Jar west of the starting continent. Be prepared as you head into this fight, as this enemy brings a unique set of attacks and resistances.

Understanding the Moveset

The Chromatic Jar has three distinct move sets, and two of them begin with a similar animation. You can land big hits early by using the free aim to strike the top of the pole if you want to. It's a useful trick to start strong.

The first move to look out for is triggered when it says the jar "performs a smashing combo." It starts with a ground slam, which you can either parry or dodge. Immediately after, jump in the air twice in quick succession, then prepare to parry or dodge the final two hits. This is a fast sequence, so stay alert.

The second move begins when it says the jar "smashes the ground." This is the one where the pole gets lifted with a big wind-up. It's a single hit, and the easiest way to counter it is to simply jump.

The last move pattern is labeled as "performs a combo." In this sequence, the jar spins the pole four times before slamming the tip into the ground twice. This combo is powerful but manageable if you read the wind-up and dodge accordingly.

How to Fight Effectively

The Chromatic Jar is resistant to physical damage but weak to elemental attacks. Focus on using elemental-based abilities and weapons to deal maximum damage. Avoid relying on brute force alone, as it will be far less effective.

When you see the enemy start to spin or slam, be ready to act. Stay mobile, time your dodges or jumps well, and look for windows to use elemental attacks.

Once you finally defeat the Chromatic Jar, you will be rewarded with Maelle's unique weapon called JARUM. This marks a big upgrade and is well worth the effort.
