Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Guide | The Most Overpowered Maelle Build

You’re going to run a team with VERSO, SCIEL, and MAELLE. For weapons, use Chevalam for VERSO, Tisseron for SCIEL, and Medalum for Maelle. Focus your attribute distribution carefully. Max out luck and agility first, then defense for Verso. For SCIEL, focus on vitality, agility, and defense. For Maelle, prioritize Might, Agility, and Defense.

Choosing the Right Skills

Keep VERSO limited to two skills: Radial Slash and Powerful. SCIEL only needs one skill—Fortune’s Fury. For MAELLE, stick with the level three gradient attack, Gage. In certain scenarios, use $10, and for multiple targets, Phantom Strike is effective.

Optimizing Pictos and Luminas

Equip “Faster Than Strong” on both VERSO and SCIEL, and put “Cheater” on MAELLE since she will handle the majority of the damage output. You want gradient-generating skills on VERSO and SCIEL, such as Charging Critical, Charging Attack, Gradient Break, and Charging Alteration.

To weaken the target, apply a mix of debuffs through Verso, including Double Mark, Burning Death, Marking Break, and Stay Marked. From SCIEL, use those alongside Exposing Attack and Greater Defenseless. Don’t forget to add energizing stars to ensure you have action points at the beginning of battles.

If you’re wondering why VERSO and SCIEL are dying in this setup, it’s intentional. Their deaths activate auto-death effects like Death Bomb (deals damage), Shielding Death (grants a shield to Maelle), and Powerful Shield (adds 10% damage per shield, totaling up to 90%). You’ll also benefit from Second Chance (revives with full health) and Breaking Death (fills the enemy’s break bar).

For MAELLE’s luminas, equip all the damage-centric ones, including Augmented First Strike, At Death’s Door, Confident Fighter, Full Strength, Glass Cannon, Gradient Fighter, Immaculate, Inverted Affinity, Roulette, Shield Affinity, and Stun Boost.

Managing Turn Order

Turn order is crucial. Even if Maelle has lower speed, equipping First Strike on her often causes her to go first, which is not ideal. To resolve this, only equip First Strike on SCIEL and Verso, and give MAELLE a lot of speed so her turn comes third. The ideal turn order is Verso, then SCIEL, then MAELLE.

Executing the Skill Rotation

On the first turn, have VERSO use Aim and Strike, then buff everyone with Greater Powerful and Ready to Strike. On his second turn, repeat Aim and Strike and then use Radial Slash.

Next, take SCIEL through the same process: Aim and Strike, then a base attack to apply Greater Defenseless, followed by another Aim and Strike. After that, buff Maelle with Fortune’s Fury to enable double damage.

Now it’s MAELLE’s turn. Use Gage and obliterate everything. This setup can easily deal close to 1 billion in damage.
