CD Projekt Red Announce 7 New Projects!

New projects include a new Witcher trilogy, Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and an original IP

Polish development studio CD Projekt Red has announced seven new projects including a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and a new Witcher trilogy.

Firstly Orion is a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The controversial sci-fi FPS has seen a resurgence in recent months following a number of well-received patches and updates, and also the release of Netflix's anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Orion "will take the Cyberpunk franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe", and development will be led by a new Boston-based studio. This new studio and CD Projekt Red's Vancouver studio will make up CD Projekt Red North America. Meanwhile, "a major expansion" titled Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is in the works and scheduled to release in 2023.

While CD Projekt Red is aiming to release The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt on current-gen hardware in 2022, fans of the franchise will have to wait a while for the series to return with a new installment. Polaris will be "the beginning of a new saga" of games in The Witcher series. It will be the first of a new trilogy and was first announced in March 2022, and is going to be developed on Unreal Engine 5. CD Projekt Red is aiming to release the three games "over a six-year period" which, taking into account the rest of the announcements, is going to be a considerable challenge.

Canis Marjoris is a "full-fledged Witcher game, separate to the new Witcher saga" and will be developed by an unannounced external studio. Said studio will be led by staff that has worked on previous games in The Witcher series. The final new The Witcher game is called Sirius and is being developed by The Molasses Flood. Named after a 1919 tragedy, this Boston-based studio was founded in 2014 by CD Projekt Red and has previously made the games The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow. Sirius will be "created with the support of CDPR" and will be the developer's first foray into multiplayer. Aimed at a broader audience than past titles in The Witcher universe, Sirius will offer "multiplayer gameplay on top of a single-player experience, including a campaign with quests and a story."

Last but not least Hadar is a new, "entirely distinct IP, created from scratch within CDPR". The game is in its preproduction stage so there is no actual game to speak of yet, but CD Projekt Red is "working exclusively on the foundation for this new setting." One thing that has been universally praised about The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077 is their rich, diverse worlds packed full of character, so a new IP with an original world from the creative minds at CD Projekt Red definitely something to be excited about.
