The NPD has proven that more people spend time playing video games this year than last year. The report was titled “Online Gaming 2013” poled 8,867 people, that were above the age of 2, and found that 72% of those people played online. According to the report that’s a 5% increase from 2012.

The amount of time playing online per week was also calculated. Which increased 6%. PCs consumers had the majority online users at 68%, but decreased 4% from last year, and mobile gaming has been increasing yearly at 12%. According to the industry analyst, Liam Callahan ““This study found that the overall amount of time spent gaming, and time spent gaming online increased across virtually every type of device, and notably so, versus 2012”.

As for the age old question between digital and physical formats it would seem that 62% of people preferred physical over digital. However Callahan did state that digital sales will rise since digital content paired with a greater amount of connected devices has driven an increase in the number of consumers going online to access the content they want”.

The report isn’t to determine why people spend so much time on online gaming rather than offline.

@Daavpuke Double that. Makes me laugh every time I see it. And it's quite realistic too.
