China Erases Console Restriction
Market for gamers now open in China
News by Grayshadow on Jul 26, 2015
The longstanding ban on video game consoles in China has been wiped away, allowing game consoles to be made and sold anywhere in the country.
Last year China took steps to allow the selling of gaming consoles, allowing them to be sold in an 11-mile trade zone surrounding Shanghai. However restrictions such as local manufacturing facilities made selling in China time-consuming and difficult.
Back in February proposals were made within the country that would allow the sale of consoles, however the console ban was enacted by China’s cultural ministry to shield youth from the influence of video games.
The Xbox One was release in China a year ago, with the PS4 and PS Vita releasing in March of this year. Nintendo consoles have yet to hit China’s market.
