Minecraft went public in 2011 but before then the game was a massive hit thanks to YouTubers, Streamers, and the robust community of gamers. Microsoft has announced the game has sold over 122 million copies!
Microsoft purchased Mojang, the development team behind Minecraft, for $2.5 billion in May 2014 to obtain the rights to Minecraft. The game's success was largely due to the growing community and development teams constant free updates. DLC packs in the way of popular franchises such as Super Mario, Fallout, Halo, and many other have been included as exclusive packs for their respected platforms.
Since its debut on PC Minecraft has been ported to Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, PS Vita, MacOS, Linux, Amazon Fire, mobiles devices, and is confirmed for Nintendo Switch.
