Three months have passed since Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice launched. Aside from addressing a challenging topic, the game was also an experiment, as Ninja Theory set out to make an Independent AAA, essentially offering the quality associated with that type of games just without the involvement of a publisher. With the latest development diary, the studio has made known some numbers. 75000 copies of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice were preordered across PC and PS4 before the game's launch. 250000 copies were sold during the first week for the price of $29.99. In three months, the game sold 500000 copies, generating $13 million in revenue, which puts the project beyond break even.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was only sold digitally. About half of the game's sales were on PC. Further insight into how funding was obtained and the hurdles the game ran into at launch can be found in the development diary. Tameem Antoniades, Co-founder and Chief Creative Ninja, spoke on the title's success saying:
"The final step is to share our commercial model and digital sales data for the benefit of other developers. The more data we have for alternative business models, the more developers can take informed commercial and creative risks. For the benefit of our beloved medium, we'd like to encourage other developers to share their own data as well wherever possible."
