Despite being an improvement from Human Revolution Deus Ex: Mankind Divided did not meet its sales requirements and was put on hiatus. However, this doesn't mean the series is dead with CEO of Square Enix, Yosuke Matsuda, explaining in a new interview that a new game is being discussed.

"We have never said anything about discontinuing that title but for some reason that's the rumour out on the market," Matsuda told GI.biz.

Currently, the studio behind the latest games is working on a new Avengers game and cannot take on another project like Deus Ex as well.

"What I can say is Eidos Montreal has always developed Deus Ex, and the issue is we do not have limitless resources," Matsuda said. "We have several big titles that we work with and that's partly a factor in what our lineup looks like. Of course, it would be ideal if we could work on all of them all of the time, but the fact of the matter is some titles have to wait their turn. The reason there isn't a Deus Ex right now is just a product of our development lineup because there are other titles we are working on."

Square Enix plans to release a brand new Final Fantasy game next year and rumors are surfacing that Kingdom Hearts 3 will finally release next year. With this information, it's possible that we won't see another Deus Ex game till 2019.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launched in 2016 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC and received overall positive scores. Many noted the improvement of the game's combat system which featured fully realized FPS and third-person controls similar to games like Gears of War and Call of Duty.
