Abandon Ship has received its fifth update since entering Early Access. Dubbed The Spider Islands, the update's main feature is the inclusion of three whole new areas, each with their own dangers and choices with potentially long-lasting consequences.
The area that gives Abandon Ship's latest update its name is inhabited by giant spiders that spare no thought attacking both ships when you engage in combat on their turf. The savage tribes of Cannibal's Lurk don't take kindly to outsiders and will paddle in their canoes to give you and your opponent a piece of their mind. Here, you can choose between siding with the cannibals or the settlers that aim to push them out. Lastly, Peril's Cauldron is patrolled by capricious people living in harmony with local snakes. They sound like a fun bunch to be around.

The Spider Islands update brings much more than just three new areas to Abandon Ship. Two new rare ships can be found in the new locations. Players can also use the new Visual Blueprint system to control some of the NPC ships, provided they remain intact once defeated. Another important addition is the ability to change your ship's weapon layouts. This means that you're no longer limited by each ship's layout, which adds further customization options.
Abandon Ship's enemies are now able to ram and board you. To counter that, the new anti-ram upgrade lets you fire a shot that instantly stops the ram action. Keep in mind that the enemy is also able to use it. A few other additions enrich the experience of sailing the title's rough seas and you can see a detailed breakdown in this video here.
