Atlus Japan recently streamed the one year anniversary celebration for the sci-fi tactical combat/visual novel 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Director George Kamitani and other staff members shared stats about the game and other secrets. The more brief info was further clarified by Famitsu, including that in the early planning stages there was intended to be more than just 13 playable characters. Some of those plot threads were retained in the game, while others dropped entirely. This includes why NPC Tamao Kurabe pilots Sentinel number 18 but isn’t controllable in Destruction mode. The stream also showcased new upcoming merchandise, including a Natsuno Minami statue and art book.

While 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim has been celebrated in Japan - including a huge endorsement from Nier Automata’s Yoko Taro - sales have been lackluster in the west. Fans blame Atlus and Sega’s lack of strong marketing to help push the game. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is now nominated for Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2020. If it manages to win against juggernauts like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Ghost of Tsushima, it may be on more people’s radar.

As part of both the anniversary and Black Friday deals the game is currently 30% off or more on PlayStation Network and other major stores.
