Borderlands is a long running fan-favorite looter shooter series, and it seems that Gearbox is far from ready to abandon the universe. Durung Gearbox's PAX Digital showcase, the creators announced that Borderlands 3 would support a free transition to next-gen consoles, given that they are in the same family (PlayStation or Xbox).
Gearbox also discussed a brand new feature, which will be introduced once these future consoles release: "With the power of the new consoles comes new features, including additional ways to enjoy local play: three- and four- player splitscreen will be available on next-gen consoles" (borderlands.com).
This is huge news for the Borderlands community, as the game is best experienced with a few friends. Although the title can be played solo, many of the character's abilities can be combined with one another to wreak havoc on enemies throughout the game.
Along with this announcement came discussion of Borderlands 3 cross-play, which will be discussed more in 2021. Because of this emphasis on growing the multiplayer community in Borderlands 3, fans can expect new content to be on the horizon.
Gearbox Software Creative Director Graeme Timmins revealed that a new DLC for the game would launch later in 2020, bringing an all-new skill tree to each Vault Hunter for fans that purchase it.
For example, FL4K's new skill tree was revealed, known as the Trapper tree. This is a more defensive tree, featuring a Gravity Snare and a new pet, Hyperion Loaderbots. Putting points into this tree will increase shields and survivability for FL4K and their pet, while the Gravity Snare will give them a more versatile crowd control action.
Interestingly enough, the Loaderbots will have three varieties for players to utilize. The ranged ION Loader will fire slow moving shock nova projectiles, the melee BUL Loader will charge enemies and knock them into the air, and the WAR Loader will be able to fire an incendiary shotgun, toss grenades and even launch homing missles on command.
This not only makes FL4K a much more versatile character, but their Trapper skill tree also is leaving players hoping for a just as game changing skill tree for other characters. Although the DLC storyline has yet to be revealed, if it does in fact have a new story, news of more Borderlands content is always welcome. Gearbox's series has been running since 2009, and the community is still strong and supportive, allowing the company to keep creating next-level content.
