Darkest Dungeon II will focus on characters undertaking a gruelling journey.

Developer Red Hook Studios has announced that it is working on Darkest Dungeon II, a direct sequel to ruthlessly difficult indie hit Darkest Dungeon. The title was announced via a short teaser that shows the tall peak of a mountain with six figures of playable classes from the first game –the Hellion, Leper, Highwayman, Plague Doctor, Man-at-arms and Grave Robber– facing towards it.
Speaking with PC Gamer, developer Red Hook Studios said that it is aiming for Darkest Dungeon II "to be its own experience". The combat system from the original will make a comeback, although it will receive a "significant tune-up". More importantly, the sequel will have a metagame structure that's entirely different, as it "is a game about enduring a gruelling journey, not cleaning up your backyard". The journey will give players a look at the effects that the apocalypse has had on the world beyond the walls of the mansion.
No specific release date was given, but we do know that Darkest Dungeon II will go through an Early Access stage, much like the original did.
