Developer Motion Twin are very close to setting free their project, Dead Cells, on Steam Early Access. Dead Cells is a 2D action platformer that plans to mix metroidvania and roguelike elements with souls-lite combat. A couple of interesting things should be note. Firstly, their approach to procedural generation will feature "a hybrid solution, with each run being a mashup of carefully designed “chunks” of level. The idea is to give you the feeling of meticulously handcrafted world, while making sure you have a new experience every time." Furthermore, death will replace the backtracking that's ever-present in Metroidvanias. Certain upgrades and knowledge your character gains will also persist through death.
The expected Early Access period, at the moment, is between 8 and 12 months, depending on community feedback, of course. When it releases on Early Access, Dead Cells will have 11 levels, 20 monsters and 50 items (which include weapons, active skills and traps). This will amount to anywhere from 45 minutes to 30 hours of gameplay, depending on one's skill, as stated in a blog post. The Early Access variant will launch at the price of $16.99, with an added 15% discount for those who purchase it early on. The title may end up costing more once it leaves Early Access. Have a look at the game's Steam page for further details.
