In March of 2013, Red Thread Games successfully funded the sequel to The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, bringing much attention to the studio and raising over $1 million. Less than a year later, Red Thread Games received a $144,000 grant from the Norwegian Film Institute for their newest project, Draugen.
Draugen is a first-person survival horror adventure set in the mountains of Norway's west coast. Inspired by Scandinavian legends and Norse mythology, players see Norwegian national romanticism through the eyes of an American - exploring a remote fishing community and uncovering the mystery behind its missing inhabitants. The coast may seem quiet and desolate, however, players will quickly discover they are not alone, as a mysterious women appears and the sound of a singing child is heard with the darkening sky.
This weekend at EGX Rezzed, Red Thread Games founder, Ragnar Tornquist, gave attendees a sneak preview of Draugen. Tornquist described the game as "Gone Home meets Amnesia," adding, "It's H.P. Lovecraft meets Dostoyevsky." Attendees saw the world premiere of Draugen's first teaser trailer and were the first to hear the news that Red Thread Games will be launching a Kickstarter for the game.
Tornquist's discussion can be viewed on Twitch, with the Draugen preview starting at around 28:10. The teaser trailer can be seen on Red Thread Games' YouTube channel.
Draugen is being developed for PC, Mac, Linux and an unannounced current-generation console, and the game will support the Oculus Rift. Draugen will release in 2015.
