E3 2010: Donkey Kong Returns
News by Craig Bryan on Jun 16, 2010
When you mention Nintendo a few characters usually pop into your head from the get-go – Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Donkey Kong. The latter however hasn’t been a feature of many of our consoles for quite some time now, unless you count his role in Super Smash Bros. Wii, which I don’t, personally.
Now Nintendo feel it’s time for his return and we’re not talking bongo playing this time; he’s finally got his role back as adventurer, and perhaps more exciting is that he’ll be returning in a full-fledged 2D platformer, with 3D visuals reserved for the background.
Donkey Kong Country Returns… that’s its actual name, and it seems like Diddy Kong is coming along for the ride, we caught a glimpse of him from the level shown.
Metroid Prime creators Retro Studios have taken this under their wing and from what we’ve seen thus far we’re pretty impressed. It has the feel of the older SNES game, but with updated Wii graphics. If they can get the right blend of retro gameplay and fresh platforming action right then this will definitely be on our future wish lists.
The game is scheduled for released around November.
