Robert Weinberg, Chief Executive Officer of Toy Island and Peter Moore, President of EA Sports, today announced that they would be teaming up to create a new line of sports equipment for children. "Our goal is to take the EA Sports brand deeper into the fabric of sports, and into new markets that allow more people to unleash their inner spirit of sports and competition," said Moore. "With Toy Island, we've found a partner that shares EA Sports' passion for quality and innovation. We're excited to be working with them to bring to market unique products that are sure to be captivating for young athletes."
According to EA’s website, they claim they can bring classic sports activities to life in a whole new way, by using a mix of infrared, motion and equilibrium sensors. They want their products to serve as a virtual coach, instructing users on form and technique, speed and power, and more. The sports they are currently in development for are: baseball, football, basketball, soccer and hockey. They are expected to go on sale towards the end of 2009.
These training tools should feature voice commands, instructional coaching elements, and even cheer when children use the proper techniques. "We could not be more thrilled with the opportunity to work with EA Sports on what we think is the next level of sporting goods," says George Vorkas, president of Toy Island. "To take games that so many of us play with and make them relatable on a physical level to kids that have grown up playing EA Sports video games, is something that we are delighted to do."
The 3 age groups they will focus on are: 3-6 years, 6-9 years, and 9-12 years.
EA Sports are famous for video game franchises such as: FIFA Soccer Madden NFL football, NBA LIVE, NHL Hockey, and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR.
