EA Sports to introduce Online Pass system this season

EA Sports has announced the implementation of the Online Pass system for its upcoming season of sports games, meant to reward users who purchase new copies.

The pass will come in the form of a one-time code included with new copies of their games, beginning with the June release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. It will allow users to register the code and get access to online multiplayer modes and bonus content.

"This is an important inflection point in our business because it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhance premium online services to the entire robust EA Sports online community," said Peter Moore, president of EA Sports.

Players who buy a second-hand copy of a game will have to pay $10  to receive a code, which only enables the content on one game.

Without a code, players will not be able to access online portions of the game, including multiplayer and, in the case of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, online tournaments.
