The August issue of Famitsu has hit newsstands in Japan and other parts of Asia. In it, Square Enix directors Naoki Hamaguchi and Tetsuya Nomura shared that the second part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake has completed pre-production and has now entered development. Hamaguchi stated that the primary focus will be outside Midgar, so that the team can show off an array of environments in the world of Final Fantasy 7. Nomura hopes that this installment will be completed in a much shorter time and release as soon as possible.

The developers also touched on some cut content from the first installment. The new character of Roche was originally meant to make reappearance as a boss encounter late into the game. He would have challenged Cloud and the party as they ascended from the slums to reach the Shinra building. Additionally, the hand massage with Madam M was meant to be even more risque, but there were concerns that the game would receive a mature only rating.
Famitsu also conducted a fan poll of favorite characters, monsters, and scenes. The directors expressed their surprise that Avalanche member Jessie Raspberry had become so popular, outranking main characters like Sephiroth and Barret.
