Futuremark Announces New Game(s)

In a teaser video posted on its official YouTube account, Futuremark promises us not one, but three new games. The Finnish benchmarking company, which released its first game, Shattered Horizon, in 2009, is apparently working on multiple new titles.

While Futuremark's recent activity as a video game developer is unusual in itself due to the number of titles it is reportedly working on, the fact that part of the original Shattered Horizon team was layed off very recently makes it even stranger.

The teaser shows some footage from one of the games, which seems to be a Star Fox-like space shooter set in the same universe as Shattered Horizon. The latter game's main theme even plays in the background.

Nothing is known about the other two games, but when developers announced working on multiple titles in the past, it often turned out that they were just releasing a few different versions of the same game. Other possibilities are Futuremark working on a big Shattered Horizon update, or maybe even a full-fledged successor.

Regardless from whether or not the 'working on 3 titles' claim is just clever marketing talk, it's in a way relieving that Futuremark is still active as a video game developer, something which was temporarily put in doubt by the aforementioned lay-offs.

Here's hoping that Shattered Horizon was not a one-hit-wonder and Futuremark will also hit the mark (bad pun definitely not intended) with its 2nd, 3rd and 4th efforts.
