GDC 2011 - Gears of War on PS3? Epic Says They 'Would Love' To

Gears of War 3 will finally be released September of this year, and I’m sure Xbox 360 fans are happy about it. As you all would know, the Gears franchise has been a 360 exclusive since the launch of the first game back in 2006, but Epic Games President Mike Capps said he would love to release the Gears series on Sony’s Playstation 3.

"Do we wish we could take all those Killzone [players] and Resistance fans on PS3, and get them to say 'Gears is awesome'? Yeah, sure I'd love to ship the Gears trilogy on PlayStation. That would be fun. I want to be there; I want to be everywhere," he said in an interview with Industry Gamers during GDC.
Despite Epic and Microsoft’s exclusive partnership of the franchise, the Gears IP is not owned by the first-party publisher, but by Epic Games itself. So, Gears of War going multiplatform is a big possibility. Though that is the case, Capps stated that he doesn’t “regret what we're doing with Microsoft. They make it worthwhile all the time." He also added the fact that Microsoft has given them “good, compelling reasons to work with them again."
"They don't just market it; they do amazing work and they have a user testing team that makes our games better, and so each time we've come to the point of 'what do we do next?' we've been happy to work with them. They help us make a better product and do some really cool marketing on the platform, so we save some money there," he went on.
While Capps hinted at a possibility of Gears of War on the PS3, he didn’t make any guarantees it would actually happen. Nevertheless, the likelihood is definitely there. EA did it for the Mass Effect franchise, so why not? The big question though, is: Do PS3 owners actually want Gears of War?
