GDC 2011 - Rochard Headed for PSN
News by David on Mar 02, 2011
An upcoming PSN exclusive title called Rochard can be best described as ‘Dead Space meets Super Mario.’ The game will star John Rochard, a kind of character in which Burt Kane, creative director for Recoil Games, described him as a “tough, ordinary miner with a mustache, placed in an extraordinary situation."

Dead Space meets Super Mario...?
There won’t be any Necromorphs in this game, unfortunately, though Kane has stated this side-scrolling platformer will have zero gravity elements incorporated in it. Rochard’s synopsis also takes some ample cues from Dead Space; the turmoil starts when miners discover“an ancient structure hidden deep in an asteroid."Rochard’s main weapon will be the G-Lifter, in which players “can lift and maneuver heavy objects around the environment, and can eventually swing, jump and propel themselves huge distances throughout each level.” Information regarding the game and its developer can be viewed on this press release.
The game will be released this spring on the Playstation Network, though I understand more details on Rochard will be revealed during GDC. So, stay tuned for that.
