Gears of War 3 expected to launch in April 2011

A third Gears of War game launching is already a given, since Microsoft has been hinting at a trilogy for quite some time now. The only question now is: when?

Many anticipated Gears developer Epic Games to announce the title at GDC this year, but according to Gamespot, they only talked about the new features in the Unreal Engine 3, most notably how they are being used for the MMO action game, APB.

Though it was nonexistent at GDC, Edge Online said that “Microsoft will launch Gears of War 3 in early April 2011,” stating they got the information from a “trusted US publishing source.” Edge also confirmed a teaser trailer is expected to be released next month on April 8, while the big reveal will be announced at E3 this year in June.

Reasons for the game being released in 2011 is because “Microsoft is keen to avoid a clash with Halo: Reach and wants Natal to own Christmas,” Edge’s publishing source claimed, while a “major marketing push ahead of its [Gears 3] release” is to be expected.

It does make sense that Gears of War 3 will release next year, because Halo: Reach - rumored to launch September 2010 - will be on gamers’ minds for the latter half of the year, along with Microsoft’s motion sensing peripheral, Project Natal.
