Since its release, God of War has been heralded as one of the best games of this generation. Garnering immense praise from critics and gamers for its rich story, robust combat system, and overhaul of Kratos. God of War took over 4 years to develop and during that time a lot of details were put into ensuring the game was an emotional journey with the latest director's commentary voiced by the director of God of War Cory Barlog providing details that players missed or didn't notice.
The series does contain spoilers so if you haven't played God of War you should avoid these videos. However, those who have played the game Barlog provides insight into why its important for the player to chop down the tree at the beginning and other details that showcase how difficult the opening scene alone was to develop.
During the commentary, Cory Barlog revealed that the first level was entirely redone by the artist within the last 6 months of God of War's development.
