Guild Wars 2 To Be Released This Year; Open Beta On Q1

Oh yes. You read it right. According to Arenanet's official blog, they have just finished their first closed beta, and will now "hold progressively larger events". What could that mean? well, for starters, they will invite select members of the press to take part in another beta event (sadly, chances are we won't be there) in February. Then, they will start opening up their beta on March, and again on April, where it supposedly will become a full open beta. Information on the subject has been quite sparse though, so they didn't specify dates or methods of joining the beta (queue for keys or just signing up, for example).

That's not all the blog entry reveals though. Famous for replying "when it's ready" whenever questioned about the release date of their games, Arenanet finally gave us a release date. Well, more of a release window, but it's still great news. Once again very vague and lacking specifics, Arenanet said the game will come "later in 2012".
